One thing we have learned when arriving in Medellin: never book a departure ticket before you have seen your destination! The morning we left Manizales, we booked our departure flight from Medellin to Cartagena. We thought 3 nights wouldbe enough. Wrong.
The city is by far the most interesting and charming one I have seen so far. It's still a big city, but the neighbourhoods we saw were very nice! Our couchsurfing host, J, lived in a good neighbourhood so we were at walking distance from the nicest parks, bars and restaurants.
Soon after we arrived and after meeting J, he gave us a walking tour through Manila & Poblado. This walking tour ended in a salsabar until 4am.
Somewhere in between we shared a bottle of wine in Lleras Park and had some more drinks in Parque del Poblado with another couchsurfing friend, Mitch the Dutch guy living in Medellin, and 2 of his friends.
A little hung over, the next day, we went for another walking tour through the city. This time, we took the metro and the cable cars all te way up the hill.
Fact: the Medellin metro seems to be the cleanest one on earth. There is always someone cleaning :)
When arriving up the hill, we entered a whole new world. Lots of people in the streets, streetfood, loud music, a hectic cosyness.
From the Spanish Library - a particular black construction - we could enjoy a panoramic view over the city.
We ended the day in a very nice vegetarian restaurant "Café Zorba" where we had hummus with freshly baked flatbread and we shared 2 delicious pizza's! It is o ly one of the many hip & trendy places Medellin has to offer!
A funny fact: every table has its own wooden spoon with a number on it. When you want to pay, you have to take your spoon to the counter.
